Loveland Lights in the Sky

Q: On the evening of March 22, 2009, at approximately 19:45 hours, I was traveling southbound on I-25 approximately five miles north of the Loveland, CO area when I noticed a set of lights in the sky that were approximately 250’ above the ground. The craft was perfectly stationary as it “hovered” in the air, neither tilting nor moving in any specific direction. As I traveled closer I was able to see that its dimmed lights were part of an aircraft/mechanical object. Did I just have a close encounter? A: A hovering craft spotted over a place called Loveland (the land…

Hauntings in Tucson, Arizona

Q: I recently read about hauntings in Tucson, Arizona–stories about poltergeists at a theater and a couple of hospitals. I knew that Tucson was the astronomy center of the world, home to a premier research institution, the University of Arizona, and a tourism destination, but I had no idea that it boasted a reputation for the paranormal, as well. Isn’t Sedona supposed to be the phantasmal capital of Arizona? A: Well, like the vortexes, perhaps the ghosts have also left.   Q: I heard that five footprints, believed to be traces left by the legendary “Shennongjia Wildman,” have been found…

Sasquatch Sightings Really Bears?

Q: All reported sightings in the states of Washington, Oregon and California of Sasquatch were gathered and used with environmental data to predict the distribution of the mythical Bigfoot. They found it yielded a perfectly plausible prediction about Bigfoot habitats. The researchers also compared the niche model for Sasquatch to one they developed for black bears. They found that the two were statistically indistinguishable. Does that mean reported Sasquatch sightings have really been of bears? A: It’s possible. But, it still doesn’t answer the question, “If a bear . . .”   Q: A tourist attraction is advertising in the…

Books and Other Gift Shop Goods Moving on Their Own

Q: A book hit a woman in the back, a 10 by 10 inch hardback titled “The Confederate Navy: The Ships, Men and Organization 1861-1865.” Books aren’t the only gift shop goods moving on their own: On the front counter, key rings, pins and whistles hang upon a square, black spindle. Workers say sometimes it spins without anyone touching it, and the motion is not spurred by a fan or air conditioner. Bruce Smith, the Port Columbus National Civil War Naval Museum’s executive director, would not go so far as to say the place is haunted. If it isn’t haunted,…

The Charm of Amulets

Q: Can you tell me about amulets? Is there one that increases creativity? A: An amulet is a charm, often inscribed with an incantation. Charms were originally spoken or sung. The word charm comes from the French charme, which means song. The problem was that most French people were totally tone deaf and solid objects became the preferred substitute. I’m sure you can go to Amulets-R-Us and get one for every reason under the full moon. Q: I was reading about the Dropa stones and the possibility that there is recorded history of the Earth being visited by aliens from…

Did Edison Design or Build a Ghost Machine?

Q: Thomas Edison said, “I don’t claim that our personalities pass on to another existence or sphere. I don’t claim anything because I don’t know anything about the subject. For that matter, no human being knows. But I do claim that it is possible to construct an apparatus which will be so delicate that if there are personalities in another existence or sphere who wish to get in touch with us in this existence or sphere, the apparatus will at least give them a better opportunity to express themselves than the tilting tables and raps and Ouija boards and mediums…

Psychic Definitions and Charred Remains

Q: Can you tell me the difference between a psychic, a clairvoyant and a medium? A friend of mine says they’re all the same with different degrees of successful guessing. What do you think? A: By definition, a psychic is a person supposedly sensitive to nonphysical or supernatural forces and influences; a clairvoyant is a person having the supposed power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses; and a medium is a person thought to have the power to communicate with the spirits of the dead or with agents of another world or dimension. Never Before Have Vampires and Werewolves Been So Sexy

Q: I just saw the movie “New Moon,” the sequel to “Twilight.” Never before have vampires and werewolves been so sexy. Women were screaming throughout the film, especially when Taylor Lautner took off his shirt and Robert Pattinson opens his coat. The movie is first and foremost a teenage love story with some spooky and freaky stuff, but even with the poor acting, I found myself aroused by the mystique and danger. Have you seen it? A: Nope. Hate the sight of blood, especially someone drinking it.   Q: I saw on a paranormal website that there is now a…

The Ghost of Former US President Richard Nixon Haunts Museum

Q: I read where a famous psychic medium, Joseph Ross, recently channeled former U.S. President, Richard M.Nixon, who would comment on various aspects of the displays in the Nixon Museum. Near the entrance are cases of artifacts from Nixon’s early life, prior to his entering politics–grade school essays, early photographs, love letters to Pat and Naval service documents. Here, according to Ross, the spirit of Nixon told the group that this was the only part of the library that he still enjoyed visiting. Do you believe Richard Nixon is haunting his own library? A: Someone allegedly caught the ghost of…

Does The Thunder Know the Hotel Is Haunted?

Q: I read that back in January, the New York Knicks spent two nights at the Skirvin Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City, and then blamed their hotel for a loss to the Oklahoma Thunder because the hotel is haunted. The Lakers, up 2-0 after a couple of home games, went into Oklahoma, staying at the Skirvin Hotel. The series is now tied at 2-2. Could it be the Thunder knows the hotel is haunted and purposely puts up their opponents there? A: If the Thunder won every home game and their opponents all stayed at the same hotel, I would…

I’m embarrassed to say that excepting The Jersey Devil (the hockey mascot) and Mothman (a movie with Richard Gere), I haven’t a clue about the other monsters. If they are for real, tell me where they roam, so I can avoid them. Are there others not mentioned above? A: The Dover Demon is an alleged cryptozoological creature sighted in Dover, MA, while Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Charleston and Point…

Celebrity Haunted Homes

Q: I read where some old homes of now deceased celebrities are haunted by the former Hollywood sensations. The homes of Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Errol Flynn, Ozzie Nelson, Mary Pickford and Bugsy Seigel are on the top ten list of celebrity haunted homes. Do you think their spirits stay behind after the body has expired to watch over their former belongings or are they possibly seeking some kind of justice for actions taken against them while they were alive? A: Just guessing, but Bugsy might have been rejected by afterlife bosses and went the way of jack-‘o-lantern. Q: During…

The Madness of Lady MacBeth in Flagstaff

Q: Tales of ghostly apparitions, witches, and the madness of Lady MacBeth from Shakespearian plays (such as MacBeth) may not be the only ghosts lingering in the darkness of the Doris Harper-White Playhouse in Flagstaff, Arizona. This place had been haunted since before it was a theater. When it was the library, lights and thermostats were mysteriously tampered with and a strange chill could be felt in the spooky basement. Now cast members have detected strange presences. Might the building be haunted? A: The ghosts stories seem real enough to me, but can they act?   Q: Psychic advice should…

UFO Resembles a Ford Station Wagon

She took off, speeding home and slammed the door shut behind her. What kind of UFO resembles a Ford station wagon? A: The only experience I have of a Ford station wagon passing anyone moving was in National Lampoon’s Vacation. As far as the colored flames, my guess is it was the highway patrol chasing the…

As if we haven’t had our fair share of disturbing news in the past few years, I am left to wonder if now our tourist industry may suffer from this latest tidbit. Any reports on hospitality hauntings? A: Near Sedona, in Jerome, there is the Jerome Grand Hotel. While not a bed and breakfast, it is haunted. Business is booming. Perhaps their ghosts help bring in visitors. Rumor is many of the apparitions are prostitutes.   Q: On a stretch of…

They also heard breathing noises and footsteps that couldn’t be explained. Are ghosts protecting the gold? A: What gold? This is Fort Knox, Maine, not Kentucky, you twit.
